SPEAKERS’ BUREAU FOR THE SEAFOOD SECTOR

Have you ever browsed a conference program run across a “manel” at an event and thought, “Where is the diversity of speakers?” or “Surely there are qualified people who can represent a wide range of voices and share their expertise?” 

We have and are doing something about it. Introducing the Speakers’ Bureau for the Seafood Sector!

  • According to a recent analysis of the gender balance of speakers at global seafood events by Women in the Seafood Industry, 32% of speakers on average were women, which is an improvement over the 19% in 2018 and 2019. 

    To build on this momentum towards gender parity at events, we must foster a more welcoming industry that embraces people from diverse backgrounds, and create opportunities for people to see themselves on these stages, thereby eliminating the underrepresentation and misrepresentation of women and genderqueer people at conferences and events. 

    So whether you’re looking to build a diverse panel or seeking out opportunities to share your own expertise and thought leadership,  the Speakers' Bureau is a tool that will help us increase the representation of women and genderqueer people on panels and the sustainable evolution of the seafood sector. 

  • Thanks to the Speakers’ Bureau for the Seafood Sector, it has never been easier for conference organizers to arrange a more inclusive panel with qualified industry experts. 

    Browse through the directory to find the speaker that fits your needs. You can use the CTRL F (PC) or COMMAND F (MAC) to search for specific keywords fitting your criteria.

    Note that unlike other speakers’ bureaus, we do not negotiate speaking opportunities or fees on behalf of the speakers, nor do we charge event organizers or speakers for any speaking opportunities that are generated or for hosting speakers’ profiles on our site. Again, the details of the speaking opportunities are for both the speaker and event organizer to discuss and agree upon.

  • It’s really simple! Head over to the directory. To create your profile, click the + sign in the bottom right corner. Use SAGE’s team’s profiles as a template and introduce yourself.

    Once your profile is created, it will not be live until approved by SAGE. Once it’s approved and included in the directory, conference and event organizers will be able to contact you directly via email and/or Linkedin. It is up to you to accept or decline speaking engagements, and negotiate your fee and any other of your requirements for your participation in an event.

  • Unlike other speakers’ bureaus, we do not negotiate speaking opportunities or fees on your behalf, nor do we charge you for any speaking opportunities you generate or for hosting your profile on our site. Again, the details of the speaking opportunities are for both the speaker and event organizer to discuss and agree upon.

  • We currently do not charge a fee for speakers or for conference organizers to use the Speakers’ Bureau. However, if you have found a speaker for an event on the Speakers’ Bureau, we highly encourage you to make a donation to SAGE to help us maintain this critical service. Suggested donations are based on the type and size of your business:

    1. Small scale non-profit organization: $50 per speaker

    2. Large scale non-profit organization: $100 per speaker

    3. Small scale for-profit company: $250 per speaker

    4. Large scale for-profit company/corporation: $500

WHAT ELSE CAN I DO TO ENSURE A DIVERSITY OF THOUGHT AT CONFERENCES AND EVENTS?

  1. If you are a speaker, ask the organizers about the diversity of the conference and/or the panel. If there is none, ask them to address this. Inclusive panels and events can now be the norm as the Speakers’ Bureau for the Seafood Industry exists.

  2. If you are a conference organizer, make sure you plan your conference to ensure a breadth and depth of diverse voices. Make a pledge, like the one at Gender Avenger, to hold yourself accountable to gender inclusion. 

  3. If you are a conference sponsor, make sure the conference organizers are dedicated to ensuring diversity at their events. If not, reconsider your sponsorship.
